Colon Cancer
What is Colorectal Cancer or Colon Cancer...?
Colorectal, or colon cancer includes:- the colon
- rectum
- appendix
- and anus
When abnormal cell growth occurs, a tumor develops. If the cells of a tumor acquire the ability to invade and thus spread into the intestinal wall and to other sites, a malignant or cancerous tumor develops. Most develop first as polyps, which are growths that may later become cancerous.
It is the most important gastrointestinal cancer, with a high and rising incidence in the developed world. The yearly incidence in USA is about 50 new cases per 100.000, in Finland slightly above 20.
Most common symptoms are: - change in bowel habits
- blood in stool
Colonoscopy is the diagnostic method of choice, and should always be done in elderly patients with bleeding or unexplained iron deficiency anemia. Surgical treatment if possible is curative, radiation and medical therapy are palliative. Second most deaths for cancers in the US (lung cancer is 1st)Risk increases with age, mostly occurs over age 50 Almost all develop from non-cancerous polyps. Polyps usually do not turn into cancer, but when they occur it's important to have them monitored, by having regular screening. Screening after age 50 is crucial. Unlike other types of cancer, colon cancer can actually be prevented by screening, because non-cancerous polyps, which can be removed, almost always precede the cancer. Colon cancer is, in almost all cases, a treatable disease if caught early. How well you do depends on many things, including the stage of the cancer. In general, when treated at an early stage, the vast majority of patients survive at least 5 years after their diagnosis. (This is called the 5-year survival rate.) However, the 5-year survival rate drops considerably once the cancer has spread. If it does not come back within 5 years, it is considered cured. Stage I, II, and III cancers are considered potentially curable. In most cases, stage IV cancer is not curable.
There are 4 basic tests: - A stool test (to check for blood)
- Sigmoidoscopy (inspection of the lower G.I. tract)
- Colonoscopy (inspection of the entire G.I. tract)
- Double contrast barium enema.
All 4 are effective in catching cancers in the early stages, when treatment is most beneficial.

Testimonials...Author: Deborah Lynch 2006-10-27 "I have used a blend of 'Young Living's' PanAway mixed with Aroma Siez directly over the area on a client with stage 4 cancer. He states that within 2-3 minutes of application his pain subsides. He also inhales peppermint oil for the nausea/vomiting after chemotherapy and it relieves it. I combine aromatherapy with reflexology for greater results."
Author: Elisabeth Scheran 2007-06-04"I was called to a woman who was still in pain 3 weeks after her operation. She had used analgesics, but it didn't work. She couldn't sit, she couldn't walk, she just could lie and was annoyed of her pain. I did reflexology with Pan-away on both feet and her pain was gone in a few minutes. Then I used Frankincense and Lavender on her belly and she had a very safe and soft and warm feeling spreading out. She was so happy and grateful being without pain. Three days later I visited her again. She had become powerful, she could walk and sit without any problems. She was not afraid of her next exam."
